Rachel A. O’Mara, MD, FACP is a Clinical Instructor of General Internal Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Owner of Streeterville Internal Medicine, LLC since February 2011. On June 1, 2017, the practice changed from a typical fee for service model to a concierge/personalized medicine practice and the name changed to Rachel O’Mara, MD, PLLC.

She graduated from the University of Richmond in 1990 with a bachelor of science in Chemistry and then a master of science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1993 from George Washington University. After completing medical school at Northwestern University in 1998, Dr. O’Mara completed her internship and residency at Yale University in Primary Care Internal Medicine in 2001.  She was then a scholar for the National Health Service Corps and worked in York, Pennsylvania for four years as an internist and as Medical Director of the HIV Program.  She then worked at Erie Family Health Center, a federally qualified health center founded by Northwestern doctors in 1957, as Program Director/Medical Director of the HIV Program.  At Erie, she raised the quality of care for HIV patients to higher than national levels on all performance measures, implemented treatment program for Hepatitis C, started Buprenorphine treatment on site, created a formal quality program that was recognized nationally, taught colleagues, and organized a warfarin management process.

Dr. O’Mara has volunteered in multiple activities and has an interest in international issues and social justice.  She volunteered in Tanzania and worked in both Zimbabwe and Cuba during residency and came away with many impactful human stories. In the US, she has volunteered with Remote Area Medical in South Dakota and worked at a clinic, Community Health, for underserved patients in the Ukranian Village.

She currently lives in Old Irving Park with her husband, two of three children (ages 20, 18, and 16) and goldendoodle.
